Taking place in the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar Games, 2018), '800 Miles' depicts a five hour horse ride through late-1800s America, spanning deserts, forests, towns and mountain tops, over several days and nights. Using the game's cinematic mode, a feature in which the game randomly selects camera angles and techniques reminiscent of classic Western films, while also controlling the character without the player's input, the lonesome cowboy continuously rides through the authentic American landscapes, never stopping or looking back. Along the way, he is met with other inhabitants of the world, all acting and reacting in dynamic and non-scripted ways.
